My Fan fiction stories

It is not unusual for me to see a movie, watch a show, or hear a song, and wonder what happens next.  When a story is particularly powerful, the characters in it have a tendency to take up residence in my imagination and carry on their story.  In general, they're content to stay in their little apartments and do their own thing, but periodically, they'll insist that their story be written down.  When that happens, I have no choice but to grab pen and paper (sometimes keyboard and laptop) and set to taking dictation.  Many times, just scribbling it down is sufficient; other times, it requires a lot more than that to get the characters to settle down.  That's when it evolves into Fan Fiction.

I love fan fiction!  Granted, the writing is not always the best, but I love seeing how people take the stories and characters beyond their original contexts.  Sometimes, I just want to immerse myself in the world of a story, but original material is limited, so fan fiction helps me quench my thirst so that I can (eventually) move on to explore other stories.  â€‹The fan fiction stories I've written based on Broadway shows are listed below.  The links connect to the Archive of Our Own site, but you can read them in FanFiction.net, if you prefer.  I had fun writing them--some of them are not quite done yet, so stay tuned for future updates!

Newsies

I never got to see the Broadway tour of Newsies in person, but I fell in love with it on Netflix!  I cannot begin to imagine how many times I've watched or listened to it, and it is forever ranked at the top of my list of favorite Broadway shows.  The story snagged my attention, ear-wormed its way into my imagination, and burrowed itself into my heart; it's no wonder that the characters demanded their story be continued.  What I've written is just a small part of a very large Newsies presence in the world of fan fiction.  I'm kind of proud of them, though, so I thought I'd share.  I hope you like them!

Disclaimer: The characters belong to Disney; I'm simply using them to imagine what happened beyond the story presented on the stage.

my fair lady

I grew up watching My Fair Lady (on VHS, no less) and love the story, the songs, and the characters.  I positively adored the stage performance, too.  It was like seeing the movie come to life, only better, because I got to meet the actors at the end and tell them how wonderful it was!  (That I also got to meet two (count 'em, TWO) Newsies, was only icing on the cake!)  These fan fiction stories are based on a mix of the stage production and the movie that's ingrained in my memory -- Rex Harrison refuses to give up his place, so it was hard to NOT imagine him as Henry Higgins.  But I enjoyed how the staging of the Broadway show allowed for more intimacy between in the story and provided some different interpretations of events, characters, and actions.  All this to say, the show was incredible, and it caused Henry and Eliza to reign in my imagination for a bit.

Disclaimer: The characters belong to George Bernard Shaw and those who created the Broadway show based on his writing; I'm simply using them to imagine what happened beyond the story presented on the stage.
